Samsung is the top mobile phone maker and Android is the top smartphone OS reports comScore. More than 80 million Americans now own smartphones with 82.2 million people owning smartphones in the United States.
For makers of smartphones Samsung is the top OEM (25.5%) followed by LG (20.9%), Motorola (14.1%), Apple (8.3%) and RIM BlackBerry (8.2%).
There was a 10% increase of smartphone ownership from the previous 3-months.
Google's Android was the top smartphone operating system with 41.8% of the market share. Apple came in second with 27%, RIM lost 4% with 21.7%, Microsoft had 5.7% and Symbian was at 2.3%.
The most popular form of mobile content was text messaging with 70% followed by browser use (41.1%), downloaded apps (40.6%) and social networking (30.1%).
