Joining the avalanche of BlackBerry announcements today from RIM, AT&T and Sprint, U.S. Cellular will also be selling the BlackBerry Torch 9850. Previous leaked documents suggest a August release date for the new Torch with a BlackBerry Curve 9350 coming in October.
The BlackBerry Torch 9850 has a new 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen, BlackBerry OS 7, trackpad, a 1.2GHz processor, 5MP camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, microSD, digital compass and 4GB of onboard storage.
Software and features supported include:
- BlackBerry service with access to up to 10 supported business and
personal email accounts, plus BlackBerry Enterprise Server support for
corporate email installations. - DataViz Docs To Go Premium suite preloaded, for editing Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files from anywhere.
- Augmented Reality using the built-in compass (magnetometer) to support augmented reality
Browsing
with BlackBerry OS 7 is 40% faster than BlackBerry OS 6 smartphones and
100% faster than BlackBerry OS 5 smartphones. BlackBerry smartphones
can use significantly less data because the BlackBerry platform is more
efficient. The BlackBerry OS also has strong security features, needed
for business and use by the president of the United States.
