According to Localytics 37% of US Android devices are 4G enabled (HSPA+, LTE, or WiMAX). Verizon holds the top position followed by Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T. The list reveals some of the fastest and best smartphones on the market during 2010 and 2011.
HTC makes 5 of th top 10 smartphones while Samsung has 3 in the list, followed by Motorola and LG with one each.
The top LTE smartphones are:
- HTC Thunderbolt (Verizon) reviewers loved the HTC ThunderBolt for its innovation and being the first 4 LTE smartphone from Verizon.
- HTC Evo 4G (Sprint) - came out last summer, HTC EVO 4G reviewers called the Android super phone, "everything a geek could dream of," "a beautiful and powerful window to the world," and the touchscreen "mesmerizing."
- Samsung Epic 4G (Sprint) - the first cousin of the new Samsung Galaxy S II Samsung Epic 4G Touch, reviewers of the Samsung Epic 4G raved about the gorgeous Super AMOLED touchscreen, large comfy 5-row keyboard and magnificent media features.
- Samsung Droid Charge (Verizon) - reviewers raved about the Super AMOLED touchscreen, great camera/camcorder and fantastic 4G LTE speeds.
- T-Mobile’s biggest 4G phone, the myTouch 4G - received two Editor's Choice awards from reviewers.
- AT&T's Motorola Atrix reviewers gave high ratings for the speedy dual-core processor, beautiful touchscreen and docks.
- Sprint's EVO Shift 4G- although the HTC EVO Shift 4G is not the fastest or largest 4G smartphone offered from Sprint, reviewers thought it has Droid-like appeal for those who text and social network often.
- T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy S 4G reviewers found many beautiful features of the Samsung Galaxy S 4G and were impressed by the gorgeous Super AMOLED touchscreen and more features.
- Sprint's HTC EVO 3D - reviewers of the HTC EVO 3D liked the dual-core processor, qHD (960 x 540) touchscreen and other features.
- Verizon's LG Revolution - reviewers found its good points to be the bright 4.3" touchscreen, 4G LTE data speeds and Netflix.
All of but one of these smartphones appeared in our Top Best Android Smartphones Now and Later at some point which we updated in May. There have been a few more great smartphones released and more will be released later which lead us to think its time to another Top Ten Smartphones for Fall.
Localytics noted that the huge deployment of 4G means that developers can use more bandwidth. Verizon uses LTE, AT&T and T-Mobile run HSPA+, and Sprint uses WiMAX – but each one represents a significant bump from the more widely-available 3G speeds.
