AT&T finally confirmed when it will release the Samsung Galaxy S II, October 2, according to AT&T's Twitter feed. The Samsung Galaxy S II will cost $199.99 with a contract and requires at least a $15 a month data plan. Recently, AT&T has been making these kinds of announcements on Twitter rather than a news release.
The Samsung Galaxy S II on AT&T keeps the European name and size. The Sprint version has a 4.5 " touchscreen while the AT&T version has the original 4.3" Super AMOLED touchscreen found on the unlocked and European models.
The Samsung Galaxy S II has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor which is currently the fastest on the AT&T network. Other features include HDMI out, 8MP camera, front-facing camera, 16GB storage onboard, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microSD slot.
The price of $199 makes it a C-note more costly than the LG Thrill 4G that has 1GHz dual-core processor and 3D 4.3" touchscreen. The Samsung Galaxy S II has a faster processor than the Droid Bionic and better benchmark scores. First-look reviews of the Samsung Galaxy S II were excellent but reticent.
