Two popular Droid smartphones are getting an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the Droid Pro and Droid 2 Global. These updates start slowly at first and then are gradually expanded to all owners. The updates also include bug fixes.
Gingerbread offers some great enhancements including the addition of download manager, active app management, shortcuts, one-touch copy/paste, widgets, icons, app groups, updated calendar options, camera geotagging, improved email synching, and camera auto-focus improvements. Read Gingerbread tips.
Enhancements for the Droid 2 Global include microSD card encryption, email/SMS bug fixes and more stability.
Enhancements for the Droid Pro include improved battery life(with Wi-Fi & Bluetooth), SMS bug fixes, GPS/hostspot fixes and V CAST Media Manager preloaded.

It will take you approximately 20 to 45 minutes to download the software, depending on network conditions. Installation should take up to 5-10 minutes additional. Keep in mind that during the installation you will be unable to make or receive calls, including emergency calls.
You will recieved notification when the update is available, you will not be able to initiate the process while roaming.
To check for updates from the Home screen, tap the Menu Key > tap Settings > About phone > System Updates > Download, follow prompts.
