Verizon Wireless has a new service for fixed-mobile convergence or mobile unified communications. The Verizon system "Verizon Mobile Unified Communications Docking Station" won the Laptop Magazine Best Enterprise award at CTIA Wireless and Applications in San Diego. It allows Android smartphones to dock at the office and work like an office phone when away from the office.
There is a PBX style corded hanset with a dial pad, called the "Mobile Unified Communications Docking Station" for the office desk that docks and charges Android an' Droid smartphones from Verizon Wireless.
Employees can use their Android phone as their desk phone and have PBX functionality away from the office. Verizon's Mobile Unified Communications Client ($7 per user per month) gives employees the ability to dial extensions, access office contacts/voicemails and set up conference calls.
While using the Verizon Wireless Android smartphone, employees can use the business or personal number when dialing. The $125 docking station is compatible with IP PBX systems from Avaya and Cisco.

The system requires Mobile UC Client (acquired from VCAST apps) and Communication Manager (PBX) integration are required for operation.
