Review Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime Shines with 5th Core & Preorders Sell-Out

While some like the price of the Amazon Kindle Fire even with its problems many would like the fastest tablet of the season the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime, expected to be released in late December.

Asus has made a video demonstration of the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime that shows off its best features while online retailers are selling out of preorders.

NewEgg has already sold-out of Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime preorders and shows December 27 as the ETA of the stocking/release date.  Our reader Scott Helm was told that the sold-out shipment at Tiger Direct is expected to ship on December 19.

The video narrated by Rolf shows some impressive features of the  Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime such as:

  • The Zen Book look
  • Rolf claims that it the fastest tablet and lightest tablet.
  • 1GB RAM and priced at $499 for the 32GB version and $599 for the 64GB version
  • It comes with a cleaning cloth and USB cable
  • The Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime has a fifth companion core that uses less power from the battery life and then switches to the quad-core processor for more intense operations.
  • The screen brightness works even outdoors.
  • Game playing is "really cool"  with gesture controls on games with 3D graphics.
  • The keyboard dock sold separately is very thin and matches the brushed aluminium
  • The dock adds an SD card reader, USB 2.0 port, browser launch key, screen brightness key, touchpad and connects easily.
  • The dock adds a mute control, Wi-Fi control, page up/down and other keyboard features.
  • You can use your Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime to control a Windows PC which would be useful for  presentation or when you are away from your computer.

You will be able to use a tablet to control a Windows 7 PC:

  1. Tiger Direct told me this morning they stopped pre-selling the new Prime because they had sold out of their first shipment (shipping to customers 12/19 & promised to arrive before Christmas). Their next shipment is scheduled to arrive 1/15 and that too is all committed to buyers who have pre-ordered. That is why you can't find the item on their site. They don't know when their 3rd shipment will arrive. BTW....Tiger Direct will be shipping the new Prime from their Illinois or Georgia warehouse. For me it will be a 2 day ship regardless of where it's coming from!

  2. Corrections to your review
    1. This tablet comes in two capacities 32 and 64 not 16 and 32.
    2. The 5th companion core is not exclusion to the transformer it is part of the tegra 3 chipset thus it will be in any tablet featuring the tegra 3. The galaxy tab is lighter the the transformer prime.

    • Thank you.
The wrong version of the article was published.

      Errors have been fixed.

We have several tablet articles running at once and we got our gigabytes crossed. When the article was written earlier today, there were still some places taking preorders which has been corrected.

Now it looks like most preorders are sold-out.

  3. Hey just one note, there is no Transformer prime with 16gb.. only 32gb ($499) and 64gb ($599)

  4. Very interesting as the Transformer Prime comes in 2 versions - a 32GB (msrp @ $499) and 64GB (msrp @ $599). Not quite sure where the author gets his information.

  5. Similarly under "Features" list -
    Point 2: "Tablet" is misspelled.
Point 3: Incorrect (see prior post)
    Point 5: "Fifth", "Core" misspelled
Point 11: "You can use your ---" What is "---"?

Paragraph 2: There is no pre-order on BestBuy for this product.

  6. Sad to say, but Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime ironically is a looser already.
It failed to arrive for the Holidays, loosing a huge opportunity. Even Amazon.com killed the pre-order deal with the lousy Chinese supplier. That itself is enough to forget about the notion of a big rival hitting the market.
This is not the Transformers movie line - it's even worst.

People who allowed to be convinced this is the rival of the magnificent Ipad were lied to and now order Ipads for Christmas.

Stick with American tablets and don't listen to silly nerds with cheap appetite for Chinese technology. Manifacturing in China is enough challenge, leave the rest to guys from the Silicone Valey. They know how to do it. And surprisingly - yes nobody else has a clue.

The "rival" tablet can now go serve it's creators from the Peoples Republic of China. They don't care much about commitments.
    Happy Holidays, happy Ipad owners!
