Research in Motion will change the name of it next operating system from BBX to BlackBerry 10 due to judgement in a trademark dispute in New Mexico.
Basis International Ltd. in Albuquerque, New Mexicoh claimed it has held a trademark on BBX for 26 years. A federal judge blocked RIM from using the name at a developer conference in Singapore.
The court reported, the “alleged infringement is likely to cause customers and prospective customers to wrongly believe that the software applications created using BASIS’s development tools are only compatible with RIM’s BBX operating system.”
The BBX platform BlackBerry 10 operating system combines the BlackBerry OS with the QNX platform that is currently used for the BlackBerry PlayBook which when reduced to $199.99 sold-out and increased traffic 46%.
RIM also recently announced BlackBerry Mobile Fusion for multi-platform mobile device management including Apple's iPhone and iPad.
At BlackBerry DevCon Americas, RIM announced its new OS, BBX combo OS along with new developer tools.
