Samsung Galaxy Nexus News: Release Date Primed 4 Later- What to Do While Waiting

Release date rouletteHere we go with release date roulette and new news on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.  The latest rumors point to of a delay until  December 13 for release/launch date for the Galaxy Nexus, while many are betting on December 9.  The superphone formerly know as the Droid Prime was announced to be coming from Verizon Wireless in October and  Verizon's latest news release is reported to be "coming soon."  We do have some suggestions for what you can do while waiting.

The internal equipment guide from Verizon Wireless was changed from December 9 to coming soon. Marketing materials are showing "in stores" 12/13/11.

Update 12/09/11: The latest rumors suggest a release date of 12/15/11 for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus when Verizon Wireless launches more cities in its 4G LTE network.  Of course, if there is another data outage it may be even later

Meanwhile, there is very crazy screenshot to a wireless retailer that states "Just a quick note the Samsung Nexus that was scheduled to launch Friday the 12th has been put off.  At this time no reason has been given as shy and no date has been set for the new launch"

Release delayThis news is very confusing because Friday is December 9 and December 12 is Monday.  Whatever the message it seems that yes, the Galaxy Nexus has been delayed.

Readers who are calling Verizon stores are being told that the Galaxy Nexus be available Thursday or Friday. A Samsung rep in a Michigan Verizon store (Farmington Hills) showed a customer the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and told the customer that it would be available on Friday and delivered 15 large boxes that said do not open until instructed to open on Thursday.

Some suggest that the delay it has to do with 4G LTE issues reported with LTE SIMs on  the Droid RAZR, yesterday.  As with many of the 4G LTE smartphones launched by Verizon Wireless this year, many manufacturers have found it difficult to get everything working smoothing with Verizon's 4G LTE network.

Costco systems, today showed that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus would be launched on Friday, December 9.

Before obtaining a Galaxy Nexus there are some things you will should know.

  • Within 2 hours of activation of Galaxy Nexus you will get a system update.
  • If you already have an Android smartphone you should backup up your data and contacts in order to get them ready for the Galaxy Nexus.
  • If you don't have a Google account, get one.  It helps you keep contact, synchronize, access from anywhere and of course use other Google services.
  • Decide on the way you want to lock your screen, with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, you can use face unlock, a code, key or a pattern.  Pattern unlock is easier and it's patented. There have been reports that a photo unlocks a phone "Face Unlock and Pattern provide minimal security, although they can be more convenient than the stronger options," the manual says.
  • The manual for the Galaxy Nexus has been leaked online.  Reading the manual before you buy and try is a great way to get ready.
  • Check with your Verizon account to see if you can upgrade early there was word that some devices have been scheduled for earlier than expect upgrade.
  • Expect to py $199-$299 if you want to be the first to buy it.  Many sources suggest that the retail price will be $299.99, discounts should be coming later.
  • Check the Verizon Wireless website at midnight EST on each day to see if it is live.
Here are some highlights from the Galaxy Nexus  manual.
  • There is an entire chapter in the "Tune Performance"  that includes ways to improve battery life including turning off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS when not using them, closing map/navigation, turning down screen brightness and  turning off automatic synching for all apps.
  • There are settings for restricting data usage by apps.
  • There is option For Wi-Fi SIP calling.
  • You can use voice input to type text by speaking. This feature uses Google's speech-recognition service, so you must have a data connection on a mobile or Wi-Fi network to use it. Voice Actions are support and not as exciting as Siri you can Set alarm, send email, navigate, call, "map of" directions, "go to" URL, send text or listen to music.
  • For screen capture, you press the volume down and power button together to capture a screen.

  1. Last week I saw a news on MBC Korean TV about 4G LTE phones works in Korea.
While using a landphone if someone call to a LTE phones, the landphone speakers makes really big buzz sound and never stop until stop using a LTE phone.

  2. What a cluster (you know what) screw up by Verizon. This is getting laughable. If I were the customers I would say "give us a date" or we buy something else by Dec 16th. Sure it's just a phone, but I can't believe how ridiculous this train crash is becoming for such a big release. People are making excuses for Verizon now--voice volume, Google Wallet, too many phones, LTE, UFOs, black helicopters, and the Mayan calender.

Here's my rumor: They have a managerial problem and rushed out a half baked concept because Google had a cool new OS that would give them a $ market edge. They've almost lost it.

  3. My first and only smart phone was the OG Moto Droid, and is still my current phone. I HATE it...I was waiting for the Bionic to release to upgrade. That's when I heard about the Nexus, which was so hyped that I decided to wait on that on instead....which was back in OCTOBER. The closer this release date gets to Christmas, the less likely I will be able to afford it. After Dec 31, if it hasn't already dropped, I am buying the iphone (which I also hate) just out of spite....might even switch carriers because I feel Verizon is mostly to blame on this.

  4. I hope no one buys that stupid thing so they can regret pushing back the date a million times. like Rob said all the costomers should buy something els they already pushed back the date more than enough to piss people off and its going to cost $200 or more anyway...its ALL A BIG SCAM

  5. It is funny when the blog boys get their pantys in a wad over launch dates that have never been set. If you read the rumor blogs and think they are accurate you fail. The only delay the Nexus has had is this weekend due to the LTE outage. It never was expected to be released prior to December 9th, your rage should be directed at the rumor sites who will post anything to get your gullible minds to visit their site.

  6. Haha, this is a very old email. They're referring to Friday, NOVEMBER 12th, when this phone was supposed to release back in November. That's why it's confusing, because they're not even talking about the same month here. I really hope it comes out on the 15th (tomorrow). I'm pretty doubtful though because Verizon doesnt' have anything on their website in regards to this phone yet. When the Razr came out, they had ads for it a week ahead of time.
