Samsung Galaxy Nexus Update Coming to Adjust 4G LTE Indicator

Samsung Galaxy Nexus side angleOver the weekend, there were issues reported with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus signal indicator strength. Nexus owners showed signal strength lower than on other Verizon 4G LTE smartphones. The Verizon support Twitter feed showed that Verizon was aware of the issue. Verizon has confirmed that they will fix the issue with an update to repair the problem.

Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney told reporters that the update "will adjust the signal strength indicator to more closely match other Verizon Wireless devices."

Raney indicated, "There is no issue with the performance of the device."

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus  translate the wireless signal into bars differently than other 4G LTE smartphones.

It's interesting to note one of the answers we found on Sunday, a forum member reported:

ANSWER: "This(data bars) is way off on the Nexus. I used a couple of other apps to check the signal strength, and they showed consistently more signal strength than the phone itself. I think that the calculations are WAY off on the Nexus. Parts of my house have really signal poor, and the Nexus held connection most of the time. A couple of times I lost connection, but those were in the same areas of the house."

Other issues reported with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus are that in landscape mode touch typing is sluggish, and there are problems playing multitouch games.

Some have reported the connection issues are network related because owners of other Verizon 4G LTE smartphones have noticed problems connecting to the 4G LTE and 3G data networks.  There was a data outage, yesterday for a short-time in the morning as well as on December 8, 2011.

Verizon added many cities to the 4G LTE network on December 15, 2011. When we called our local Verizon store, we were told that they were upgrading the network.  It may be that the network is experiencing "growing pains."

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus release was delayed until December 15, 2011 and it still was listed as one the top ten best, hottest, and coolest smartphones of the year.
