By Lynn Walford 01/10/2012 Tweet

Asus Transformer Prime Primed for Early Update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS)At an Nividia press event last night, it was revealed that the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) was rolling out which was three days earlier than promised for the Asus Transformer Prime . We believe that it makes the Asus Transformer Prime the first ICS-enabled tablet.

The Asus Transformer Prime  was named the coolest tablet of 2011 by Wireless and Mobile News for its transforming into a netbook computer with a dock.

Nividia has teamed with Asus to work on quad-core tablets and there are faster, more powerful tablets with more features coming in 2012.

Nividia noted that the FOTA update starts in the U.S. first (other countries to follow) at 7:00PM Pacific time on January 9, 2012.

The update makes the Asus Transformer Prime  faster, adds the a new font scheme (Roboto font) and faster browsers. Some are saying it makes the tablet fell like a tablet.

It is important that your Asus Transformer Prime  be fully charged when you start the update, you don't want any disconnection to corrupt the downloading of the update.

The update does not solve GPS issues which are caused by the metal case. The next version of the he Asus Transformer Prime   is a different material and will have better access to wireless signals.

The Asus Transformer Prime has a quad-core processor. It is 8.3mm thin and weighs 586g, which is a bit heavier than the Tab 10.1, but lighter than the iPad 2. Features include, a mini-HDMI output, a microSD slot, a 1280 x 800 Super IPS+ Gorilla Glass touchscreen, a 1GB of RAM,  a gyroscope, a SonicMaster audio, a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera and an 8MP camera with 1080p video recording. There is special keyboard dock that turns the Asus Transformer Prime into what looks like the Asus Zenbook.

Asus recently stated that there will be a tool for unlocking the boottloader.   BesttBuy.com showed stock of the Asus Transformer Prime 32GB in Gray ready to ship and now it is sold-out.

Below is video of the Asus Transformer Prime  running ICS.

Some features of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich:

  • There is transition effect when swiping through the homescreen.
  • There are folders on the homescreen to save files.
  • Video playback is full 1080p.
  • The Ribtibe game running with a great water effect.
