Droid 4 Review of News Ready for Release Date B4 or After Droid 3 Death?

Droid 4 caseBefore the Verizon 4G LTE network outages, there were rumors that the 4G LTE-enabled Droid 4 would be out before Christmas. However, the Droid 4 did not see the light of a release date in 2011.  2012 looks like a better year for the Droid 4 according to leaks and end-of life of some of its predecessors.

A demo unit of the Droid 4 was leaked. It looks a lot like a Droid RAZR with a QWERTY keyboard. The Droid 4 also made an appearance in the Best Buy Reward Zone online. Droid 4 accessories are appearing in Verizon stores. The Droid 4 FCC documents were filed in December.

Some believe that Motorola will make an announcement for the Droid 4 until CES, next week. The Droid Bionic was announced at the CES, last year.

The latest rumors suggest a February release date.  The fact that cases for the Droid 4 are showing up in Verizon stores, makes a case for a release date soon.

The Droid 3 is expected to be discontinued in January with shipments stopping this month. The Droid 4 continues the original Droid tradition of a full QWERTY keyboard and most likely will replace the Droid 3.

In December, the Droid Does website briefly showed specs for the Droid 4.

Expected specs of the Droid 4:

  • 5-Row full QWERTY keyboard with LED edge-lit keys.
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 4"(qHD) touchscreen.
  • 1.2GHz dual-core processor.
  • 1GB RAM for fast UI.
  • 1080p video capture and playback.
  • HDMI mirroring.
  • 1785mAh battery.
  • Motocast for wireless file streaming.

  2. I've been waiting for a phone like this since last June. Sadly, we don't even have the Droid 3 over here in the UK, so god knows if this will ever land here, let alone when.
