HTC Unlocks Bootloaders for HTC Amaze, Sensation 4G, EVO 3D, Design & View 4G

HTC now allows unlocking of the bootloader for some of the latest model smartphones including the HTC Amaze, EVO 3D, EVO Design and Sensation 4G.

Unlocking allows the loading of non-market apps and is generally used by developers.  Please note that unlocking your HTC smartphone will void the warranty. Many of the unlockable smartphones appear in the Wireless and Mobile News' top ten best hottest coolest smartphones of the year list.

The HTC Android smartphone models that can now be unlocked that are sold in the United States are the:

  • HTC Amaze 4G (T-Mobile)
  • ALL EVO 3D (Sprint)
  • EVO Design (Sprint)
  • ALL EVO View 4G (Sprint) 2.23.651.1
  • Sensation 4G (T-Mobile U) 1.45.531.1
The unlocking process requires the downloading and installation of the Android SDK and authorizing a legal disclaimer.  The web tool requires registration with an email account and an acceptance of legal disclaimers that unlocking may void all or parts of the warranty.  Then the user plugs in the HTC smartphone into a computer with the Android SDK loaded to retrieve a device identifier token is made, which users enter into the web tool to receive a unique unlock key via email. After entering the unlock key the smartphone will be unlocked

On the HTCDev page users of the unlocking tool are warned:

It is our responsibility to caution you that not all claims resulting or caused by or from the unlocking of the bootloader may be covered under warranty. Please note that unlocking your bootloader does not mean that you will be able to unlock the SIM lock. Unlocking your SIM lock is at the discretion of your operator/carrier and is not part of the bootloader unlocking scope.

We strongly suggest that you do not unlock the bootloader unless you are confident that you understand the risks involved
