The iPhone 4S launch in November was very successful, while Android remains the top smartphone OS, reported Nielsen.
46.3 percent of all smartphone owners surveyed in Q42011 reported they have an Android-based mobile phone.
Among New smartphone owners in the last three months 44.5 percent of those surveyed in December said they chose an iPhone, compared to 25.1 percent in October.
A majority ( 57%) of new iPhone owners surveyed in December said they got an iPhone 4S. 46.9% of new owners bought Android smartphones and BlackBerry accounted for 4.5% of purchases in December.
Nielsen numbers don't however reflect what reviewers thought were best smartphones of 2011 which was the first year that the iPhone did not appear on many lists. 2012 is the first year the Windows Phones such as the Nokia Lumia 900 are winning awards.
As of Q42011, 46 percent of US mobile consumers had smartphones and growing fast. In fact, 60 percent of those who said they got a new device within the last three months chose a smartphone over a feature phone.
Dear Wirelessandmobilenews,
I was wondering on a similar note,, I am in the market for a smartphone. I narrowed my choices to the following:
1.) iPhone4 - like the layout and apps
2.) Samsung Galaxy - new phone, but don't know a lot about it
3.) HTC Evo - a droid phone with open source apps
Which is better? best? I also may want to use it as a router. Can I do that and not pay the extra hardware device to connect my computer and laptop?
Thanks,
Jim
Great Job!
