Samsung Galaxy S(Fascinate, Captivate, Vibrant, Epic 4G & Tab Update to Android 4.0 Off Again?

Over the holidays, there was hope that the Samsung Galaxy S line of smartphones could possibly be get an update to Android 4.00 Ice Cream Sandwich.. Now outlets are reporting there will not be an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for the Samsung Galaxy Tab, Fascinate, Captivate, Vibrant, and Epic 4G. Some are still hoping for at least a few ICS features on these models.

A blog post from Samsung  indicated that the original Samsung Galaxy S line of smartphones and Galaxy Tab tablets would not be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich caused an uproar of complaints. Samsung countered with that  it would investigate other methods to try to make the upgrade work.

Samsung headquarters wrote in statement to several media outlets "A full update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for the GALAXY Tab(7-inch) and GALAXY S is not practicable due to hardware limitations. Samsung remains committed to providing the best possible mobile experience to all existing and new customers."

This statement leaves some hoping for a reduced "value pack" update because the statement does not completely rule out the porting some ICS features to Galaxy S smartphones and tablets.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich combines the Android smartphone OS with the tablet OS (Honeycomb from Google) and adds new features. See all features in 4.0 Primer.

The Samsung Fascinate and Samsung Epic 4G, were updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, while Captivate and Vibrant owners are still waiting for their update.

The latest models of Samsung Galaxy S II smartphones and tablets will be upgraded to Android 4.0 in 2012.
