There are all kinds of foibles when it comes to the tablet business. We called the HP TouchPad the ImmortaPad because it keeps coming back over and over again. RIM has not given up on the BlackBerry PlayBook either. Now there's another sale and a freebie deal for developers.
The last time RIM reduced the price of BlackBerry PlayBooks, they sold-out. The new prices are $199 for the 16GB model, $249 for the 32GB model, and $299 for the 64GB model. Walmart.com has reduced the prices a tad bit more for the 64GB BlackBerry PlayBook($198) and 16GB BlackBerry PlayBook ($298) which were in stock as of this writing with free shipping to store or 97c ent shipping.
We couldn't find price reduction yet at BestBuy.com, while OfficeDepot showed all the BlackBerry PlayBook models in stock. When the price is this low, they can blow out quickly. The PlayBooks were already out of stock at RadioShack online.
The $199.99 deal bests the Amzon Kindle Fire because the PlayBook has an HMDI out port and GPS. If you are a BlackBerry user, you can tether the BlackBerry PlayBook to your BlackBerry smartphone.
According to Chitika the BlackBerry PlayBook Black Friday special caused a huge increase in PlayBook Traffic.
The 7-inch (1024 x 600) touchscreen tablet runs the new BlackBerry Tablet OS on a1GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM. The PlayBook supports Wi-Fi and Flash. It weighs less than one pound.
The BlackBerry PlayBook can tether to a BlackBerry smartphone. Features include user-friendly QNX technology, true simultaneous multitasking - apps run simultaneously and in real time, accelerometer, 6-axis motion sensing (gyroscope) and digital compass (magnetometer), GPS and micro USB port.
Developers who want to have the BlackBerry PlayBook experience can do so just by writing a PlayBook app and submitting it to the BlackBerry App World by February 13. There are no fees for submission or registration. Of course developers may spend hours writing an app.
The BlackBerry PlayBook was not as popular as other tablets named as the best tablets of 2011 by Wireless and Mobile News. Winners include the HP TouchPad an Asus Transformer Prime, Kindle Fire , Motorola Xoom , Droid Xyboard or Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Before you jump on the deal bandwagon, new tablets 7 inch tablets have been announced for future release that will be cheaper (ViewPad e70 $169) ) and more powerful( Asus Eee Pad Memo $249).
