A day before the Droid 4 launch,Verizon is reportedly starting to send out all kinds of updates including an upgrade for the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX. The update offers many improvements and glitch fixes.
Verizon recently released the Droid RAZR MAXX with more battery power as well as the Droid RAZR in purple or white. It is rumored that starting after midnight tonight the Verizon Wireless will have a buy-one-get-one-free offer for the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX for Valentines.
Droid RAZR update 6.12.173.XT912 includes mobile hotspot fixes, 3D mappping, V CAST preloaded, Visual Voice Mail improvements, better data connections in low-signal LTE places and enhancements to commonly used operations such as ringtones, contacts, email as well as OTA updates.
We learned recently why updates take so long sometimes. Updates put strain on the network, which is why they are usually started on Thursday and not pushed out in massive numbers until late Friday.
It's always a good idea to backup your data before completing any update. Be sure that your battery is at least 40% charged.
If you are roaming you will not receive a system update notice. You will need to enable Wi-Fi and wait for the update notice to appear. To enable Wi-Fi go to "Settings" > "Wireless & networks". Touch "Wi-Fi" to enable.
It will take you approximately 30 to 90 minutes to download the software, depending on network conditions. Once you download the software, the next step is to install it onto the device. Installation should take up to 5-10 additional minutes. Keep in mind that during the installation you will be unable to make or receive calls, including emergency calls. Note: The size for software version is 151.8MB.
To check for the update, from the Home screen, tap the Menu Key > tap Settings > About phone > System updates > Download.
