Gorilla Glass 2 Transforms Asus, Windows & Autos

Because smartphone and tablet touchscreens use glass, it is really important for the glass be strong, durable and lasting. Gorilla Glass 2 will be thinner and make for thinner lighter smartphones and help prevent damage.

Replacing a broken touchscreen on smartphones is very costly and not always covered by warranties. Therefore when Gorilla Glass 2 is part of the touchcreen reducing the chance of breakage its a godsend.  Gorilla Glass 2 will change smartphones, tablets, computers and even cars.

Corning Gorilla Glass 2 enables up to a 20 percent reduction in glass thickness, while maintaining resistance, toughness, and scratch resistance. The thinner Gorilla Glass 2 enables slimmer and sleeker devices, brighter images, and greater touch sensitivity.

Asus announced that it will use Gorilla Glass 2 in its products.  Previously, the Asus Transformer line of tablets were made of Gorilla Glass.  It has not been announced, yet if the next series of Transformer products will have Gorilla Glass 2. ASUS expects to make specific product announcements and unveil new devices using Corning Gorilla Glass 2 over the coming months.

Gorilla Glass is tough and easy to clean and used in appliances.

Gorilla Glass 2 along with Microsoft, will help deliver  performance, and toughness for new Windows PCs. early this year.  There has been no announcement, yet around Windows Phones.

Gorilla Glass is chemically strengthened through an ion-exchange process that creates a deep compression layer on the surface of the glass substrate. This layer acts as “armor” to reduce the introduction of flaws by end users.
