HTC has been suggesting it will update various models to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for a while. We finally have a the list of smartphones that will be updated with the first updates coming out this month.
AND the HTC models to be updated to Android 4.0 in the United States are:
- HTC Vivid - AT&T.
- HTC EVO 3D - Sprint.
- HTC EVO Design 4G - Sprint.
- HTC Amaze 4G - T-Mobile.
- HTC Sensation 4G - T-Mobile.
- HTC Rezound - Verizon Wireless (note a build has been leaked which is a good sign).
- HTC Rhyme - Verizon Wireless.
- HTC Thunderbolt - Verizon Wireless.
The HTC Sensation and Sensation XE updates are in the early stages which will be available more widely in the next few week, followed by the HTC Sensation 4G. HTC has also updated HTC Sense, but it is not clear how much HTC Sense will be updated.
After the carriers receive the update from HTC then there is a process of testing and carrier-add ons that contribute time to the process.
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich adds some features such as Android Beam, Face Unlock, a new UI and improved camera (see all features and video). It combines Android 3.2 Honeycomb features and updates other features.
Carriers usually offer updates over the weekend, because an update on a popular smartphone can clog networks significantly.
