Verizon Data Outage Over 4 New iPad, Galaxy Nexus, Droid RAZR, HTC ThunderBolt & More

There were reports of brief data outage by Verizon Wireless customers, this morning and 4G service is now restored.

Update 03/14/12:  There appears to be a 3G data outage for iPhones and smartphones in the Northeast/Mid Alantic. Read details and fixes.

First on Twitter, Verizon reported "VZW is investigating customer issues in connecting to the 4GLTE data network. 3G data, voice and text services are operating reliably." However, we're hearing reports that 3G is down for customers as well in some areas."

 Verizon later reported that "After a brief issue this morning, 4G LTE service is fully restored" in a subsequent Tweet.

In the past, we found that it often hard to connect any smartphone or tablet during or after an outage.  The best ways to reconnect are:

• Turn off the HTC ThunderBolt, Droid RAZR, Droid Charge or what ever model you are using.  When you turn it back it on, you may get data access. It worked on the Samsung Stratosphere we were using.
• Toggle to airplane or Wi-Fi mode and then reestablish a 4G LTE connection.

This is the fifth reported outage since last fall.

Here are excerpts from the Verizon Wireless statement we received previously:

"...Nonetheless, we estimate that 4G LTE connectivity has been available approximately 99 percent of the time this year.

Among the numerous measures we have taken or will take are:  geographic segmentation, which enables us to isolate, contain and rectify network performance issues, and maintain service to the majority of customers when an issue does develop; and software fixes that we have developed, tested and applied regularly - and will continue to do so. Both will improve performance and reliability.

The capabilities of 4G LTE have exceeded many expectations.

We will not rest until our 4G LTE network performs at the very highest levels that our customers have come to expect from us.
