The Beta of Republic Wireless is closed but cheapskates can't wait for the next beat service to open for $19 a month for unlimited use.
The service mainly works over Wi-Fi using an Android smartphone, it only routes to cellular networks when Wi-Fi isn't available.
The website remind users "Your phone prefers Wi-Fi for your calls, texts and surfing, and only uses cellular as a back up."
The Republic Wireless blog reported "In May, we’ll introduce a new Wi-Fi to cellular handover technology that is already blowing us away in the lab (our developers are good!)"
They will also announce a new phone in April. They claim you will no longer have to pay big cellular bills.
The first released Android "phone" was the LG Optimus for $199.99.
Most likely this plan is only worthwhile if you already have Wi-Fi surrounding you at work and at home.
