Samsung Droid Charge Update - Out

Droid charge updateWe have confirmed from Verizon spokesman Albert Aydin that Verizon is rolling out an update for the Samsung Droid Charge.

The FP1 update fixes some glitches in ads the ability for USB tethering blocks tehtering while in Wi-Fi mode and adds new widgets.

Update 03/28/11: One of our readers noticed that the documentatio at Verizon online now states that the update block Wi-Fi USB tethering.  We have corrected the mistake.

The customer support widget Verizon Remote Diagnostics allows with customer approval for Verizon Care to view what's going on with the Droid Charge for diagnosis and training. We have mapped out in another article  how Verizon Remote Diagnostics tool will work step by step(read details)

System update size is 85 MB and could take up to an half hour to download but only a few minutes to install.

If you are roaming, you will not receive a system update notice. You will need to be in an area where Wi-Fi is available. Enable Wi-Fi on your device. Connect to Wi-Fi and wait for the update notification to appear or you can manually update by selecting "Home" > "Settings" > "About phone" > "System updates".

Note you will not be able to make emergency calls during the update. Also its always a good idea to backup your data first and on a regular basis.

  • This application, with customer approval, allows VZW Customer Care to remotely view the device for troubleshooting, device training and application demonstrations.
  • VZ Navigator® is now updated to version 7.5.1.52.
  • The Google Mobile Services (GMS) package includes updated Google Books, Market and Gmail applications.
  • Default browser landing page is now www.google.com.
  • Updates protect device from data loss caused by some 3rd party Android Market™ applications.

  1. March 28, 2012 - Directly from the Verizon Wireless website: USB Tethering while in Wi-Fi mode is now blocked. The above article says it is allowed. Apparently you were given incorrect information. I figured Verizon was up to something sneaky. The incorrect press release re: allowing wi-fi tethering is all over the internet.

  2. Clarification: Re: FP1 Update - Directly from the Verizon Wireless website on March 28, 2012: if you install the FP1 update, "USB Tethering while in Wi-Fi mode is now blocked." The above article says it is allowed. Apparently you were given incorrect information. The incorrect press release is all over the internet. I am going by what Verizon has on the website now.
