The latest horny guy stalking app "Girls Around Me" used GPS, Foursquare with Facebook data to tell guys where girls were checked-in nearby. Called the creepiest app around it is now banned from the Foursquare sever due to API violations.
The app connected Foursquare with publicly available Facebook profiles scanning for full name, age, birthday, marital status, where she went to school and parents' names.
The app website states:
Girls Around Me is a revolutionary new city scanner app than turns your town into a dating paradise!
Use it to see where hot girls and guys are hanging out in your area, view their photos and make contact!
SMS Services, Girls Around Me developer, doesn't believe the app was stalking comparisons and plans to reintroduce the app in the future.
Here's our take on it, since everyone else is saying it has to due with privacy.
Whatever you reveal on any public network is public and if a company can use that data to make money in the app or by advertising it will.
Facebook continually scans posts to know what to advertise. All Tweets, Facebook public Facebook posts, Google+ posts, YouTube video and anything web related is public. Even email, text messages, Flkr pics, and any digital file that can be copied is public.
Our motto "Think before you click or check-in."
In the real world a real man who saw an attractive woman would have to be polite and introduce himself, or perhaps, he would have someone with honor introduce him. Real men do have to use an iPhone app to find out from Facebook if a woman is single.
Common, guys, grow up and act like real men. There is no app for that.
