Verizon Prepaid Android Samsung Illusion & MiFi Mobile Hotspot 5/1

Samsung IllusionTomorrow, May 1, Verizon Wireless will begin offering a new 3G Android smartphone prepaid plan and a prepaid 4G LTE mobile hotspot option.

The Samsung Illusion is priced at  $169.99, features include Android 2.3, 1GHz processor, 3.5" curved touchscreen, 3MP camera, DLNA, 1500mAh battery, microSD slot and 2GB of internal storage.  You can only use the specific smartphones and devices approved by Verizon for prepaid data and voice.  The $80 a month prepaid plan for the Samsung Illusion includes unlimited voice, unlimited text and 1GB of data.

What happens when you use over 1GB of data. We contacted Verizon Wireless spokesman Ken Muche who said "Overage data costs 5 cents per megabyte. "

The per megabyte pricing equals $5.00 for 100MB, $15.00 for 300MB, $30.00 for 600MB and $50 for 1GB.

Verizon will continue offer the $50 unlimited 3G  talk, text and web option for "basic phones" such as the  Samsung Gusto, LG Revere, Pantech Caper or LG Extravert.

Verizon also announced a prepaid mobile Wi-Fi hotspot option.  The Verizon Jetpack 4G LTE MiFi 4501L Mobile hotspot costs $129.99, it creates a Wi-Fi network that can be connected to up to 5 devices. When not in a 4G LTE area it will use Verizon 3G data. Requrments include Wi–Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Internet Browser, Windows 7, Vista, and XP; Mac OS X 10.4.0 or higher and Linux and  One Type–A USB port–for  software updates only.

Mobile prepaid data plans for the Verizon Wireless Jetpack 4G LTE MiFi 4501L Mobile hotspot are as follows:

  • $15 for 250 MB of data weekly.
  • $60 for 3 GB of data monthly.
  • $90 for 10 GB of data monthly.
