Asus really knows how to tease its fans. Last week teaser videos had tech bloggers salivating for a dual-boot tablet and a double-sided tablet.
The details have emerged with some truth the speculation from the Computex teasers. First off the double-sided thing is a ultrabook with a dual-sided screen with tablet like functions when the lid is closed.
The ultrabook, Aus Taichi is called part tablet and part notebook with a double-sided Full HD IPS display with a 1920 x 1080. The first thing we thought is that it would be a great way to play Battleship (video follows).
Features of the Asus Taichi on the keyboard side include two USB ports, mini HDMI port, mini DisplayPort, combo audio jack/power socket and NFC. When you close the lid the Taichi becomes a multitouch tablet with stylus support. it will be available in 11.6" and 13.3" models. Asus claims it is as light as the Zenbook and may wind up being thinner than the UX218. The description sounds saying it is "part tablet, part notebook but 100% fun."
In mirror mode both displays show the same image at the same time. We thought it would be nice for sales presentations while Asus suggests its a way to share with friends. It looks like the parts don't detach to become a separate tablet.
For Windows users who like to play Android games, Asus will preinstall BlueStacks software to enable the use of Android apps. BlueStacks, makers of “App Player for PC” software, will run Android apps on asus@vibe, a one-stop entertainment platform that is preinstalled on all Asus products.
Prices and release dates have not been set, yet.
