Smartphone & Tablet Data Will Explode 50x or More

Dialogic reelased some new data about data. There will be massive increases in data traffic due to smartphones and tablet use.

By 2014, smartphones will be 50% of all handsets shipped. By 2020, 4.2 Billion people will be using smartphones.  Smartphone traffic in 2016 will be 50 times greater than it was in 2011.

Tablets Create Traffic Too

• Mobile connected tablets will generate almost as much traffic in 2016 as the entire global mobile network in 2012.
• Tablets generate 3.4x more traffic than smartphones and by 2016 there will be over 350 Million deployed tablets.
• About 60% watch video with their smartphones and tablets. This is expected to get to 70% by 2016.
• About 20%-25% access the web.

There will be 8.6x more mobile data traffic in 2016 compared to 2012 – an astounding 71% CAGR.  This could be the reasons behind the carriers offering usage-based pricing.  The massive amount of data is going to effect data traffic.
