AT&T has big plans for Windows 8 tablets and is the exclusive carrier for holiday tablets from ASUS and Samsung. These tablets are hybrid devices that can be turned into a netbook (like the Asus Transformer Prime) or a notebook PC than can be turned into tablet by removing the keyboard.
ASUS VivoTab RT, the first quad-core Windows RT 4G LTE tablet, features a 10.1" multi-touch Super IPS display with ASUS TruVivid. The VivoTab RT is equipped with 32 GB of storage, 4G LTE access and NVIDIA's next-generation quad-core Tegra 3 TE processor. It features Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 RT Preview Edition for easy Windows PC syncing.
The Asus tablet also has an 8MP camera, front-facing camera and NFC. The AT&T ASUS VivoTab RT model should also work with the keyboard that transforms it into a netbook for the non-AT&T Asus Vivo Tab RT which starts at $599. Windows RT is stripped down version of Windows 8 for tablets.
Samsung ATIV Smart PC has a detachable keyboard-docking station to switch between a clamshell notebook PC and a tablet PC. The powerful ATIV Smart PC has 11.6" HD PLS display, Intel Clover Trail 1.5 GHz dual core processor and 64GB internal storage memory. ATIV Smart PC comes installed with Windows 8, and preloaded with a trial version of Microsoft Office 2013 for productivity apps, including Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
Customers purchasing Windows 8 tablets from AT&T can choose AT&T Mobile Share plans, AT&T's existing individual or family plans.
I like the idea of the Windows 8 tablets because you already know the OS. I don't like the high iPad-like prices.
Windows is entering into the tablet market late, but it also has a big enterprise following. If companies foot the price tag, then they don't care about price.
