In time for Easter, there are many Jelly Bean updates rolling out this week. The MetroPCS Samsung Galaxy S III is getting updated too, along with the HTC One X and Droid RAZR/MAXX. Your Samsung Galaxy S III must be connected to Wi-Fi for the update to work.
The servers were so busy some owners had to wait to download the update. Be sure that your Samsung Galaxy S III is at least 50% charged. DO NOT STOP the process during the update, like we did with out AT&T model (see video).
It is always a good idea to backup your data before starting an update.
Android Jelly Bean 4.1 offers a better keyboard and is faster/smoother (read features). The update should also include a faster TouchWiz experience. New features include camera filters, low-light photo mode, an easy mode, call blocking, SWYPE keyboard, low light photo mode, video pause/resume and Pop Up Play sizing/resume.
Check for updates, follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
- Touch Settings.
- Touch About device.
- Touch Software Update.
- Follow the on-screen prompts.
- Wait as your phone restarts and updates.
MetroPCS' 4G LTE is slower than the major carriers but costs much less.
