While we are waiting to hear more about Android 5, we thought it would be nice to look at the tablet that should be updated quickly to Android 5, when it is released the Nexus 10, a pure-Google 10.55" tablet that in reviews comes the closest to the iPad fourth generation retina display model and starts at $100 less.

Benchmark tests also show the Nexus 10 to be almost as fast as the iPad 4. Some reviewers reported that they thought it was better than the iPad because the 10.55" screen is slightly larger than the iPad's 9.7" screen. The Nexus 10 is thinner and lighter than the iPad and features rubberized coating so it's not slippery.

Consumer Reports  noted the 16GB Nexus 10 equals the iPad in most areas of performance and has a slightly larger display. In a comparison by the Los Angeles Times, the Nexus 10 had the fastest web browsing times over the iPad (4)  and best sound but still a close second to the iPad. In GLBenchmark Tests, the Nexus 10 came in second to the iPad 4 in most tests,.

The Nexus 10 features a 300ppi 2560x1600 pixel screen which a reviewer called the sharpest around.  The screen also has excellent skin tones. However because the screen is so dense, it eats up battery juice, making the battery last about eight hours for normal use while the iPad can last up to 10-11 hours. Reviewers found the camera to be decent.

The Nexus 10 features a dual-core 1.7 GHz Exynos 5250 processor, 2GB RAM., 5MP camera, 1.9MP front camera, NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-FI, GPS, 9000mAh batter and Gorilla Glass 2.  If you have a Miracast adapter you can stream media wirelessly to HD TVs.

Because the Nexus 10 doesn't have expandable storage, some power users may run out of storage space.

The hands-down Android winner is the Google Nexus 10 with Wi-Fi, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, dual core-core A15 processor  $499, Buy Nexus 10 32GB from Walmart for $499.99 (no shipping charges with site to store) which makes it a better value than the $499 16GB iPad Retina.  The recent price drop on the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 makes it cheaper choice, but slower.

Android 4.2 added mutitscreen, photo sphere and customizable lockscreen and other features to Android.  When Android 5 is released, it will be interesting to see if it improves battery life.
