How is Apple going to give users a big screen phablet-experience and still fit in your pocket? A new patent shows a "wrap around display" which may or may appear as the iPhone 6 Flexi.
A flexible AMOLED dsiplay is "rolled" or folded inside a clear enclosure. The wrap around screen makes for a lot more screen space and covers both sides of the iPhones. Maybe it open up like book and turn into an iPad or you flip from side to side to see more like when you read the back of a card.
The iPhone Flexi has no physical buttons, all functions are completed by gestures such as running a finger along the sides. The transparent enclosure is formed entirely of glass. The device has an image capture and sensor. A portion of the glass enclosure is masked to prevent the end-user from seeing components inside.
Samsung revealed that it is working on flexible display at CES in 2011. Corning now makes flexible strong Gorilla Glass, called Willow Glass.
The patent filed by Apple's attorneysstates "A consumer electronic product includes at least a transparent housing and a flexible display assembly enclosed within the transparent housing. In the described embodiment, the flexible display assembly is configured to present visual content at any portion of the transparent housing."
In 2008 Readius at Mobile World Congress showed a a gray-scale roll-out ereader with a phone built-in.
