We were wondering we were asked to meet during with Sprint execs and reps on Wednesday when they were not making an announcement. It seems LTE may be deployed in 21 places today, Friday for the Sprint network that also includes Boost and Virgin Mobile.
Sprint LTE can be as fast as 13Mbps down and 5.5Mbps uploading data. Sprint has overhauled its towers for increased capacity and more stable connections. The leaked screenshot, however was incorrect. It seems the deployment is taking longer than expected. The screenshot may have been from a time when Sprint was planning for the deployment. Originally, Los Angeles was slated for the end of March, then there are the municipalities to deal with and other problems. We expect a delayed announcement, at some point. You have to have an LTE enabled smartphone such as the Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, HTC One (not available until 4/19), Galaxy Victory 4G LTE, HTC EVO 4G LTE, LG Viper 4G LTE, Galaxy Nexus, iPhone 5 or Motorola Photon Q LTE. Some customers have noticed coverage already in Los Angeles.
According to a leaked screenshot Sprint will be launched in over twenty markets today include:
- CA- Los Angeles and Contra Costa County.
- Florida- Palm Bay, Port St. Lucie, West Palm Beach.
- Indiana- Bloomington and Lafayette.
- Illinois- Rochelle
- Minnesota- Mankato-North Mankato
