Microsoft Windows Phone is finding a new market and expanding market share. The latest Nokia Windows Phone, the Nokia Lumia 521, sold-out on its first day of sale.
T-Mobile no longer subsidizes smartphones and the Nokia Lumia 521 is bargain in comparison to top-of-the-line smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S 4, HTC One or iPhone 5.
HSN sold-out of the Nokia Lumia 522, priced at $149.95 per phone, along with screen protectors, a car charger and a flex-pay option. The HSN video stated that they only had 400 units in stock. The video shows the features and the ability to wear gloves or use fingernails to operate the phone. The host also highlighted the savings of T-Mobile $50 unlimited un-contract plan.
The Lumia 521 will be available with Walmart's exclusive $30 a month plan that includes 5GB of HSPA+ data, unlimited text and 100 voice minutes ( overage minutes 10 cents each.) It will also be sold directly through T-Mobile. The official release date is May 11.
The Nokia Lumia features a 1GHZ dual-core processor, 8GB internal storage, microSD card slot, 4" touchscreen, 5MP camera and free Nokia Music.
Microsoft has been gaining acceptance with sales as high as 20% market share in Mexico and Poland where carriers subsidies are less important.
According to Kantar Worldpanel ComTech Windows Phone accounted for 5.6% of smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2013, Windows gained 1.9% compared to the same period last year,
