Apple at the World Wide Developer Conference is showing its new streaming music service and a new version of the operating system on iPhone, iPad and iPad, iOS 7.
iOS 7 was designed by Jony Ive. The new interface goes to the edge of the screen with a translucent area that shows more content underneath with new type and icons. iOS 7 supports multitasking for all apps.
The platform has been completely overhauled with subtle motion and a cleaner look. New features include Control Center, Notification Center, AirDrop, enhanced Photos, Safari, Siri and new iTunes Radio.
- The Music App has iTunes Radio, a free service with 200 stations created from music in the iTunes store. The stations are based on music listened to by the user.
- Moments is a new way to collect photos along with iCloud Photo Sharing.
- The camera app has real-time filters and a square camera option to change to video, photo, square or panorama modes.
- Security has been beefed up so with the new Find My iPhone Lock, that is password protected and uses your Apple ID before you can turn it off, erase data or reactivate the iPhone.
- Maps adjust to light at night with Night Mode.
- Notifications are synched across devices, so that once it check on the iPhone, you don't have to check on your iPad or vice a versa.
- You can now block certain people on FaceTime Messages and phone calls.
- Control Center, lets you control Airplane Mode, Wi-Fi, Do Not Disturb, screen brightness controls, pause/play music and Air Play all from the same place.
- AirDrop transfers content with your contacts close by with encrypted security.
- Siri comes in male and female, as well as Twitter, Wikipedia and Bing search.
OS 7 will be available as a free software update for iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, iPad mini and iPod touch (fifth generation) this fall.
