AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II (S 2) Update to Android 4.1.2 Out

It took a while but he Samsung Galaxy S II  (SGH-i777) is getting  updated Android 4.1.2 Jelly via the Kies app-only.

The update upgrades the O.S. to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and will make a few changes after the upgrade.

Kies AndroidIf you don't have Kies, you can download it from Samsung.  Before starting the update be sure to backup your data and make sure your battery is at least 50% charged.  Installation will take a few minutes. you will not be able to make calls during the update process. Do not stop the process in the middle.

Besides adding well-known Jelly Bean features, the update will also include a faster TouchWiz experience.

Enterprise users be forewarned that User created Access Point Names (APNs) will be erased during the update. Please touch Menu > Settings > Wireless and networks > Mobile networks > Access point names to reconfigure your custom APNs after the update is complete.

What to expect after the upgrade

  • Bluetooth: Paired Bluetooth devices will be removed.
  • Home screens: The home screens will be reset to the ICS default view.
  • Application Menu: The application menu sorting, folders and home keys will be reset. Downloaded applications will be preserved.
  • Contact Groups: All Contacts and Contact groups will remain. However, contacts within the contact groups will be removed.
  • Email: Email accounts that were added as a Social Hub or Samsung premium account will be removed.
  • Music: Music playlists and settings (Equalizer, Sound effects, Music menu) will be reset during the update.
  • SIM and Memory cards: Information stored on your SIM and Memory cards will not be changed, and may remain installed during this update.

Here's How to Update Your AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (777UCMD8):

  •  Connect your Samsung Galaxy S II to your PC or laptop using the supplied USB cable. Ensure that Kies recognizes your device by looking in the upper section of the left-bar navigation menu. Your device should be listed.
  • Kies Device Once Kies recognizes the device you will see a screen stating new firmware is available.
  • Click Update.
  • Read through the Caution pop-up and, if you agree, click to populate the I have read all of the above information checkbox.
  • Read the Allow saving of information statement and select Allow saving or Proceed without saving and then click Start upgrade.
  • After a few minutes, Kies will then begin transferring the firmware binary to the device.
  • Then after a while the upgrade is completed.
  • If completed a data backup from your device to Kies prior to performing the update, you can now restore that data back to the device under the new Jelly Bean operating system.
