There were two reports about sales of the latest smarpthone models, the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4. The reports affected the stock market.
Previously, we learned from Michael Walkey that the GS 4 was the top seller through carrier retail outlets. However, today on Wall Street Samsung took a nose dive.
Samsung shares went down 6% on Friday because J.P. Morgan Chase reported that sales of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 have slowed, a little and may come in below predictions. Monthly sales may decline from 10 million down to sever or eight million, ending up of 60 million for the year, rather than 80 million.
The HTC One has sold over 5 million smartphones with increased revenue 48% for HTC in May, amounting to half of HTC sales. However, Kevin Chang of Citigroup estimates that HTC shipments peaked in May, will stay high through June and then decline in July. The lower demand is due to saturation in development markets and consumers waiting for the next iPhone. HTC shares fell 1.4% on Thursday.
The smartphone world is very fast and fickle. If you are interested, today we compared LTE speeds on the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S 4 and found them to be about the same.
Sales figures for the two top best smartphones of the spring, are different.
It's interesting to note that Samsung and HTC One are believed to purposely launch their top models in the spring so that they don't compete with the latest iPhone in the fall of 2103. Also in the fall, both models will be highly discounted and most likely cost less than subsidized iPhone 5S models.
