iPhone 3G 3Gs & 4 Broken Warranty Lawsuits Filed & One Won

Not everyone is completely satisfied with their iPhones, including the iPhone 3G, 3G and 4. Original iPhone, iPhone 3G/3GS  and iPod Touch owners have won a class action lawsuit while there was a new claim that the iPhone 4 button breaks after a year.

A lawsuit filed in 2010 claimed that Apple unfairly denied warranty coverage for the original iPhone through iPhone 3GS and first three generations of iPod Touch. Those who were unable to get warranty coverage will receive payments of around $200.  Apple denied warranty claims, while customers claimed that their iPhones or iPods were not exposed to water even though indicators showed water damage.

iPhoneliquidindicatorIf the water indicator inside the iPhone and iPod Touch models turned from pink to red, Apple claimed it proved water damage. 3M made the indicators and later reported that the  indicator could change colors due to heat.  Apple agreed to pay $53 million in damages to 153,000 members of the class action lawsuit. More information will be available from the court-appointed attorneys.

When a phone breaks just after a year and the owner has to finish the contract, it is not fair to those who bought them.  Apple sold the iPhone 4 while knowing of a power button flaw, claims another class action lawsuit.

There's flaw in the cable connecting to the power button of the iPhone 4 that causes it to deteriorate, making it harder to press until it doesn't work. Hundreds of customers have complained that it breaks just after the one-year warranty runs out.

Using the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act a woman and her class action attorneys are accusing Apple and AT&T of conspiring together to sell expensive two-year contracts on phones that break after one year.

The suit claims that Apple knew of the problem at the time of manufacture. Thousand of owners have been affected noted the suit.

"No reasonable consumer would have purchase an iPhone 4 and agreed to a 2-year contract --knowing that if the phone would be unusable prior to expiration of the contract.

This information is good to know if you are planning on buying an iPhone, since Walmart dropped the price of the iPhone 4S and 5 many retailers are following including AT&T,  However, a major cost owning the iPhone is the contract and Virgin Mobile is expected to be even cheaper than Straight Talk for iPhone ownership.
