Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (JB) Updates for Nexus, Xperia, HTC One, Samsung & More

Android Jelly Bean 4.1Google announced that it is now pushing out the Android 4.3 update for Jelly Bean to Nexus (4, 7, 10 ) and Galaxy Nexus owners. The update is going out over-the-air (OTA) and users will get a notification within a few days to a maximum of two weeks. Sony announced update plans, while other makers have not reported upgrade plans.

Android 4.3 come pre-installed on the Nexus 7, the Wi-Fi version of which launches on July 30.

The major featured added in Android 4.3 is that it offers restricted profiles, limiting access to apps and content which is helpful to parents or for retail use. It can let devices be used for credit card transactions without the users getting access to the some of Google account holders' information.  Restricted users don't get access to Gmail, calendar, Play Store or in-app purchases.  Apps can be chosen to for each user.

Android 4.3 also now supports Bluetooth Smart that lets mobile apps work with  new devices like fitness sensors or a heart rate monitor.

For developers Android 4.3 supports OpenGL ES 3.0, an API for rendering photo-realistic graphics, especially useful for game apps. There is also a new Digital Rights Managment API for HD content that will be used by Netflix.

The Google Developer blog reported that it is over all faster than previous versions of Android.

Minor update features include:

  • Bluetooth AVRCP,
  • Dial pad autocomplete.
  • Easier text input.

What Will Be Updated?

Google Edition Samsung Galaxy S 4 and HTC One owners updates are expected to be very soon.

Sony announced that the  the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP, and Xperia Z Ultra will be updated to Android 4.3.

Through binaries, it was confirmed that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus will be updated.

HTC told TechRadar it would be “reviewing Android 4.3 to see how this update fits into our plans.” A Samsung U.K. rep told Tech Radar that will reveal upgrade plans to Android 4.3 to selected Galaxy devices in the coming months.

There is no world, yet from LG or Motorola regarding update plans for the new Droid Ultra, MAXX, mini or Droid RAZR HD/MAXX.
