The Motorola X is coming with customizable options, made in the USA. There has been an ad and a sign-up page as well as new reports.
The Moto X sign up page says, "It’s also the first smartphone that you can design yourself." The tagline notes, "Designed by You. Assembled in the USA."
ABC sources have reported that the customization will include many colors and engraving. Because the smartphone will be made Fort Worth, Texas, they can be produced and delivered in a few days.
Customers can select color choices for the body and trim of the Moto X via a website. They can also engrave a message on the back and upload photos for the wallpaper to come preloaded.
The Motorola X will run Android 4.2.2 and is currently being tested by many carriers including Verizon Wireless. Standard color versions of the Moto X will be available directly through carriers and retail outlets. Buyers will be able to choose storage options.
Previously, Motorola reported new sensors to make use, easier. Gestures will be enabled so that you can flick the phone to launch the camera. Speech recognition swill be enabled. Another feature is a sensor that enables speakerphone when it detects that it is in automobile.
As far as a release date goes, Motorola said in an ad in the major newspapers that it is "coming soon."
There have been FCC documents filed for Motorola phone that could be the Moto X from Sprint.
Previous leaks suggest a Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor and not too large touchscreen. Motorola seems to like the 4.3"-4.5" range to keep it affordable. The processors from Taiwan, OLED screens from Korea. The devices will be assembled in Fort Worth.
At D11, Motorola revealed that the Motorola X will have special sensors that were developed from the MotoActv watch which has a heart rate monitors, fitness tracking, calorie counting and bicycle mileage. The Moto X is contextually aware.
Motorola is also working on accessories to be sold along with the Moto X.
Leaks suggest specs of a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 720p touchscreen, 2GB RAM and 10-13MP camera.
Mmmm, here's some speculation, because the people in the ad are diving into water, perhaps it could have nano coating. They are not however talking on their Moto X phones.
By the end of the summer Motorola expects there to be more than 2000 new employees in Ft. Worth, TX working making Moto X smartphones.
