There are reports that the new Android Device Manager is out via an over the air update. It sort of reminds us the Motorola Phone Portal that came with the Mootrola Atrix. You can ring your Android, locate it (within so many feet depending upon the settings) or erase data, if enabled.
We tried it out today, on two different Android devices and it only worked part of the time. It could be that the server is busy.
You have to have background data enabled. When we checked location, it placed one phone in the front yard, instead of the office, but at least we knew approximately where it was. It did locate it within 10 meters, though.
Sometimes the "ring" device function worked and sometimes it didn't after we shut the sound off of two different Android phones.
The device has to be associated registered with a Google Account and you can access Android Device manager, via the web or another Google device.
Android Device Manager rings your phone at maximum volume so you can find it, even if it's been silenced. Or if you can't hear it (say, at that restaurant you left it at last night), you can locate it on a map in real time.
If your phone can’t be recovered, or has been stolen, you can erase all of the data on your device.
To enable Erase Device, you must enable factory reset on your device. To do so, open the Google Settings app on your device, "Security" tap the checkbox within Android Device Manager.
This service is now available on devices running Android 2.2 or above; to use it, you also will need to be signed into your Google Account and have registered the device with the Google account.
There will also be an Android app to allow you to easily find and manage your devices.
After I used it once my screen went black and couldn't get the home screen.
I had to turn off the Droid and then back on again.
Then it came on.
It couldn't find my Moto Atrix either.
Even with it turned on. It doesn't work Google...
Didn't find my device, didn't ring it, didn't work.
I'd be concerned that if the wipe function works,if stolen.
It rang my phone ten minutes later, like a phantom...
It didn't work with sound off and couldn't locate my phone.
Too many people have either lost their phones or their minds!
