T-Mobile latest uncarrier deals and plans that are cheaper than the rest of the pack and with more data are working to the tune of 1.1 million new customers.
T-Mobile sold 4.3million smartphones an increase of 71% over the previous quarter. iPhones were 29% of sales and a much better deal than three other major carriers. T-mobile sold about 900,000 iPhones by the end of June. About 90% of the iPhones sold were iPhone 5 models.
In the same quarter, AT&T added 551,000 contract customers, while Verizon Wireless added 941,000.
T-Mobile reported that almost a quarter of customers joining its new service plans are either bringing their own device or paying full price upfront for their phone
T-Mobile claimed it had a successful execution of major strategic initiatives including the launch of the iPhone, the launch of Simple Choice and JUMP!, and the pending spectrum acquisition from U.S. Cellular.
It also reported, "With the success of our Simple Choice plan and the continued evolution of the Un-carrier strategy, branded postpaid net additions for 2013 are expected to be between 1.0 and 1.2 million. With this growth, and rate plan migrations, the penetration of Value/Simple Choice plans in the branded postpaid base is projected to be between 60% and 70% by the end of 2013."
It has been reported that two most popular devices on T-Mobile are the super-cheap Nokia Lumia 521 and Samsung Galaxy S II. The SII must have been selling with contracts because now it costs $4o6 as opposed to the $144 for the Nokia Lumia 521 which is even cheaper at Walmart.
