In a few months we will reach the four year anniversary of Verizon's first Android smartphone the Droid, leaks earlier in September showed what some thought to be the Droid 5 that kept with the original Droid tradition of having a QWERTY keyboard.
Leaked photos form Weibo a Chinese social networking site, revealed a QWERTY slider with five rows in the style of the Droid 4.
The Droid 5 was rumored to have a 4.3" 720p touchscreen, dual-core S4 processor and 1GB of RAM. It reportedly will be made by Motorola with 1GB RAM, microSD card slot, NFC or wireless charging. The Droid 5 may also have Kevlar coating or water resistance.
The above rumors were circulated with no proof. Some contend that the photos were of model that will never be released because it had a older version of MotoBlur which hasn't been around for a few years. From the style and specs along with various rumors the Droid 4 may be the end of the line for smartphones with an actual keyboard.
Currently, Droid fans have the option of the Droid Ultra, Droid mini or Maxx what would they call it the Droid Key?
The logo and full name Motorola appears on the front a style that has been discontinued. Motorola has also changed its logo to be a rainbow of colors, the Moto X has a white "M". If you look at the new Google style Motorola logo, the Droid 5 was a probably a smartphone that never was.
As you can see to the right, the Droid Ultra has not Motorola logo on the front at all.
Several issues.
The photo showing the OS showed Android 4.0.3. As my Droid 4 is on 4.1.2 that was a red flag for me.
The rumored specifications are ridiculous and Motorola/Google won't sell any phones with 18 month old processors and 1 GB of RAM. Guess I'll wait for the iphone 6 and pair it up with a case that includes a bluetooth keyboard.
