So far we have a massive line up of new smartphones for the fall into holiday sales. The iPhone 5c/5S, Moto X, LG G2 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 are the major players. Unlocked pure Google Nexus fans are waiting for the next Nexus after the Nexus 4, the Nexus 5.
A recent rumor suggests that the Nexus 5 could be revealed or shipped on October 14.
So how do we know a Nexus 5 is coming? Google reduced the price of the 16GB Nexus 4 down to $199 and sold-out.
Then there was some snooping in FCC documents around devices filed by LG. A video of the Android KitKat installation at Google headquarters showed a Googler taking a photo with a larger Nexus labeled smartphone.
A filing class 2 permissive change (antenna/PCB adjustments) for the Verizon LG G2 showed a different phone than the LG G2 with support for Verizon LTE the LG-VS980.
A previous FCC filing showed the LG D820 another for with GSM/HSPA+/LTE radios for carriers for T-Mobile and AT&T. The D820 filing showed a 4.96" screen, 2,300mAh battery, 5.27"x 2.7" body.
LG made the Nexus 4 and some thought that Motorola may make the Nexus 5. LG denied it was making the Nexus 5, earlier.
Those who compared the photo of the Nexus 5 seen taking photos of the giant KiKat and the LG-VS980 say that they look alike.
The master leaker @evleaks on Twitter noted that former Nexus 5 leaks were wrong, he Tweeted "Happy to say it looks like I was wrong about the LG D820/D821..."
Yes it is confusing and the most confusing round of leaks. The FCC photo of the LG-VS980 is clearly not the LG G2 because the LG G2 has the power button on the back.
Of course we will know more when Google announces the Nexus 5, probably in October, like it did last year.
