New research "2013 Holiday CE Purchase Intentions" ranked Apple the top brand preferred brand for smartphones (iPhones) desktops, laptops, MP3 players (iPod), tablets (iPads) and media streaming (Apple TVs).

Previously Dell held top ranking for desktops, now it is number two followed by HP, Acer and Asus.

Amazon Kindle came in second after Apple's iPad followed by Samsung, Microsoft Surface and Acer.  After the Apple TV, Roku is second followed by Buffalo, Boxee Box and Netgear.

Being a preferred brand doesn't mean that shoppers necessarily buy the brand.  In the case of media streaming, last year, 34% of 18-34-year-old planned to  Apple TV but later it was discovered that 24% bought an Apple TV while 29% bought Roku.

We believe that often buys intent to buy Apple but then retreat when they find how much they cost.  T the only price reductions, we've seen on the iPad  air $50-$75 off from Best Buy for Thanksgiving/Black Friday.

People may arrive on Sunday December 8 in Best Buy to look at the iPad Air but when they find out that if they buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 or Galaxy S4 they get a free Galaxy Tab 3 7"with two year activations on AT&T for both items.

Charts on the Parks and Associates website show more buyers of tablets than game consoles.
