Here's a rundown of today's wireless and mobile news that is too short to report.Although Apple shares fell today and iPhone sales dipped in Q4 2013, Forbes reported that the iPhone 6 and iWatch will help increase sales in the future. Carl Icahn reported that he bought $500 million more shares of Apple.
- AT&T added 1.2 million smartphones to its network during Q4 2013 and had atotal of 110 million cellular customers.
- Samsung sold a record 86 million smartphones in the 4th quarter of 2013 with 29.6% of the total market, great than Apples 17.6% iPhone share with 51 million units, followed by Huawei (16.6 million) and Lenovo (13.6 million). For 2013 319.8 million smartphones were sold worldwide.
- BlackBerry reported that BlackBerry Messenger will be available for Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread soon, the app is already in beta.
- Automatic's smart driving assistant that connects to the OBII port on cars and iOS devices is being updated with iBeacon functionality.
- Verizon shareholders approved, Verizon's buyout of Vodaphone's 45% stake in Verizon. Vodaphone shareholders also approved the deal.
- T-Mobile's CEO stated that a merger with Sprint could help fight the big duopoly.
- After AT&T finishes its acquistion of Cricket, it will launch a big marketing attack with a very competitive value space.
- Verizon Wireless in now providing service in 35 New York City subway stations, deployed by Transit Wireless.
- Sprint announced that it will use fuel cells to backup power at some base stations, thus reducing the company's carbon footprint.
- CTIA is working with TV stations to share the airwaves. KJLA and KLCS are a part of a test project in which 4G data and TV transmission share the save wavelengths.
- Seahawk's receiver Golden Tate will be sharing his Super Bowl experience via Google Glass.
