In celebration of spring break most of the wireless and mobile news today was just too short to report surrounding a new T-Mobile plan, Sprint update, DropBox and A&T.
T-Mobile introduced a new plan for those afraid of overages and don't need international messaging For $40 a month the Simple Starter plan available April 12 includes unlimited voice minutes, unlimited U.S. messages and 500MB of capped data with tethering. When the data is finished no more data can be accessed. Customers are given the option to buy a 500MB daily pass for $5 or a 1GB weekly pass for $10. T-Mobile will still buy ETFs of subscribers who switch to this lower capped data plan for a limited time only.
Sprint is sending out a software update for the Samsung Galaxy S 4, tri-band Spark version that adds Wi-Fi calling. Wi-Fi calling is a free service that it enables users to send their phone calls and text messager over a Wi-Fi network. it is generally used in places where the cell phone signal is weak. This is the fourth Sprint device that allows for the feature.
DropBox dropped some new apps that include Mailbox for Android. MailBox for desktop computers and a new photo organizing cap Carousel that automatically uploads/organizes photos by time/locations with private chat. Carousel is available starting today.
Rick Osterloh has been named s President and COO of Motorola effective immediately. He was formerly the head of product development for Moto X and Moto 360.
AT&T and Transit are working to add cell service to 29 underground stations in the borough of Queens and 11 more in Manhattan by the end of summer. AT&T and Transit reported they will offer service in an additional 242 stations around the city in the future.
