MetroPCS Samsung Galaxy S3 (III) Update to 4.1 Jelly Bean

In time for Easter, there are many Jelly Bean updates rolling out this week.  The MetroPCS Samsung Galaxy S III is getting updated too, along with the HTC One X and Droid RAZR/MAXX.  Your Samsung Galaxy S III must be connected to Wi-Fi for the update to work.

The servers were so busy some owners had to wait to download the update. Be sure that your Samsung Galaxy S III is at least 50% charged.  DO NOT STOP the process during the update, like we did with out AT&T model (see video).

HTC One (X) Update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Today is update day for the HTC One X can now be updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean over Wi-Fi. The Droid RAZR/Maxx is getting an update this week and other Android updates are scheduled to be released soon including 4.2.2 for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

The HTC One x update adds some AT&T software and Isis payments as well as HTC Sense 4. The update also improves power management and fixes  AT&T Address Book .

Droid RAZR/MAXX Update to Jelly Bean 4.1 2Day

Verizon Wireless and Motorola announced the new software update for the original Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX. This update includes an upgrade to the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Other Android updates are scheduled to be released soon including 4.2.2 for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Android Jelly Bean 4.1 offers a better keyboard and is faster/smoother (read features). To check if an update is available  go to Settings > System > About phone > System updates.  Follow prompts to download and install the update.

Updates are coming and going in the Android world.  Here's a round-up or recent update news for some of the most popular Samsung Galaxy devices with a Jelly Bean focus.

Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus SOON Song- According to Verizon Twitter account a rep tweeted that the Nexus will be update to Android 4.2.2 but did not state when. The all too familiar release date was "coming soon."  An XDA forum member has reported receiving an update for his Nexus.

The Oscars will be aired Sunday night and there are all sorts of mobile ways to participate. Last year the official app was only available for iPhones and iPads, this year you can download apps for other OS. There are also a variety of ways to Tweet about the event and new social channels to watch. Like the SuperBowl, expect some big stars in the commercials aired during the show.

The Official Oscars Apps this year are for iPhone, iPad, Android and Amazon Appstore for Kindle.

There is now a PetFinder Android app today, and an updated iOS app. It gives smartphones the ability to chose, find and  decisions about adoption when looking for a furry companion.

App users can see 375,000 pets from approximately 14,000 Petfinder member shelters and rescues. Features of the apps include:

Search by type, breed, gender, age, shelter or rescue group.
Contact information and directions to the rescue group associated with each pet.
Sharing of pets with friends via email, Facebook and Twitter.

While, I'm sneezing over my keyboard that is filled with germs suffering from the latest flu bug, I thought I could help  those who haven't caught it, yet, with guidelines and apps.

First off, someone who had the flu showed me some videos on her iPhone, I held the iPhone and didn't wash my hands- my bad.  Yes, I should have gotten a flu shot. Another problem I realized is that I have been wearing the same earphones listening to music while sick in bed without cleaning them, yuck.

The new Android 4.2.2 update for Nexus 4, 7, 10 fixes bugs and removes some secrets.

There are reports that the change to the Nexus 4 baseband software seems to have completely disabled its partial, undocumented LTE support for the Nexus 4.  The Nexus 4 has an LTE chip on it but does not officially work in the United States.

Google has been running new ads and deals for its Nexus devices, however they are slow to ship.

Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) is examined cell phone plan costs by operating system. iPhone owners pay the highest  for an average monthly data bill for all smartphones. Android user paid slightly less and BlackBerry owners paid the most varied prices across payment benchmarks. [more]

In general, North American pay the second highest rate for data at $22 per GB after South American who pay $23 per GB according to Quantum-Web.

Nearly 59% of iPhone users surveyed in the fourth quarter of 2012 paid more than $100 per month on their wireless plan.  10% of iPhone owner paid $200 or more while only 6% paid  $50 or less.
