New AT&T Policy 24 Months Only Pay Full Price or BYOD

AT&T announced that all plans will have  a 24-month upgrade policy across all of AT&T’s wireless products.

The change of plans applies for all contracts that expire in March 2014 or later.

AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II (S 2) Update to Android 4.1.2 Out

It took a while but he Samsung Galaxy S II  (SGH-i777) is getting  updated Android 4.1.2 Jelly via the Kies app-only.

The update upgrades the O.S. to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and will make a few changes after the upgrade.

AT&T will start preoders on Friday for the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active, a stronger version of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 at the same price $199.99 with a contract.

AT&T is clearly marketing it to parents, who have learned the hard way that kids can be very hard on smarpthones, especially around the sprinkler, juice and the pool.

Verizon LTE vs AT&T LTE in Los Angeles Highest Score

AT&T and Verizon Wireless are running neck and neck in the race to the fastest data, call quality and text messaging.  Root Metrics' June report shows just how close all the carriers are in the quality of services, they offer.  We have tested carrier speeds and found them to be faster than Root Metrics reported even using the Root Metrics app, see video that follows.

Root Metrics uses an app that is installed on smartphones to compare data.  Other companies that make similar software ware Ookla and OpenSignal.

New AT&T LTE markets were launched this week.  Data speeds can be ten times faster than 3G and faster than some DSL connections, especially if you have a new model smartphone with one the faster quad-core processors.

The top smartphones for the fastest LTE are the HTC One, LG Optimus G Pro  and Samsung Galaxy S 4, other devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S III, still offer great data speeds.

Fee Doesn't Free All AT&T But Gets $90 Credits/Upgrades or No ETF & End Contract

Once upon a time, if AT&T changed its fees, you could get out of your contract without an Early Termination Fee, as was the case when they increased the fee for text messages.  AT&T added a .61 "administration fee," earlier this month, which allowed some complaining  AT&T users to get out of their contracts with paying an ETF.

Because of the terms of the contracts,  some users were able end their contracts  without paying an Early Termination Fee.

AT&T Vid Chat/FaceTime for LTE iPhones/Android By 6/2013

AT&T stated that preloaded video chat apps on BlackBerry Android and iPhone, with LTE and  unlimited plans will be supported over its LTE network by mid-June.  Support over all its cellular data networks will be enabled by the end of the year.

When Google released its latest version Google+ for Android, video chat didn't work on the AT&T cellular network.  Users are given a pop-up screen that tells them to connect to Wi-Fi.

Cheapest iPhone 5 Got More Expensive, Still Best Deal vs Sprint, AT&T & Verizon

The iPhone 5 on  T-Mobile when all costs are figured was the best deal around for an iPhone and still is after a $50 down payment price hike that started today. The $50 discount can be achieved by transfering a  phone number from another carrier or trading in a valuable used smartphone. (see chart)

The $99.99 down deal is now over the total payments for the iPhone 5 has been increased from $579.99 to $629.  The initial fee to buy an iPhone 5 is now $150.

Aio Wireless (pronounced A-O) was is a new prepaid service from AT&T, that launched, today.  Aio's unlimited talk, text, and data rate plans range from $35 to $70 per month,  offers 4G download speeds of up to 4Mbs per second.

AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note Jelly Bean 4.1 Update Live

AT&T is rolling out an update for the original Samsung Galaxy Note to Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2.

The update must installed using Kies software. The update is named Baseband version I717UCMD3. Be sure to backup your data before completing the update and make sure your battery is at least 50% charged.  Installation will take a few minutes. you will not be able to make calls during the update process.

AT&T has started a new promotion that equals at least $100 off a new smartphone including the Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC one and BlackBerry Z10 each of which that sell for $199.99.

If you buy a $99.99 smartphone, you can get it for free. In order to get the offer you have to turn in a smartphone that is no more than three years old and in good, working condition.  Some trade-in smartphones may bring in more money.
