Many wireless fans were disappointed that Samsung canceled the Google episode press event at CTIA in San Diego next week.  We have no way of knowing why they cancelled it.  However, we have noticed that Samsung has made some faux pas that are in bad taste which may have contributed to their decision.

Tuesday evening (around 5:00 pm),  after the iPhone 4S announcement, we received a comparison chart from the Samsung PR team comparing the Samsung Galaxy S II to the iPhone 4S.  Most news outlets were closed for the day.  Therefore, the comparison chart wound up being published in many news outlets on the day of Steve Jobs' death, Wednesday, October 5.

While the world was mourning the death of Apple's great visionary, Samsung was seen saying "The Samsung Galaxy S II is better than the iPhone 4S, nah, nah, nah, nah nah."

HTC Rhyme Doesn't Chime with Smart Women? Crime, Sublime, or Go for Nexus Prime?

HTC Rhyme Goddess 2

HTC Rhyme Goddess 2Whenever a carrier gears a smartphone towards women, they tend to have problems in the design and the marketing of it.

The Palm Pre had many things women liked,  a curved shape, one-handed operation, small keyboard and  a way to combine information so that it was easy to manage.

Other phones geared towards females generally come in a prettier color.  In fact, studies have shown that women prefer pink.

I have turned heads at the local coffee house with a hot hibiscus pink notebook computer.  The men were afraid of it while the women were in awe.  Yes, we do like pretty colors but it appears that we want smartphones that are smart and state of the art.

So what about the HTC Rhyme does it rhyme with sublime or crime? Or maybe you want to wait for HTC Vigor or Nexus Droid Prime?

Kindle Fire iPad

Kindle Fire iPadThe iPad will continue to dominate the tablet space for many reasons, noted Peter King, analyst at Strategy Analytics in an interview with Wireless and Mobile News.

Tablet buyers are not just buying a tablet but want an entire ecosystem of content, apps and functionality.  There will be many hurdles to jump, before the price drops down to $199 for full-powered tablets.

In the case of the HP TouchPad, King said “You could buy a Ferrari at a Ford price,” which accounted for the fast sales when the prices of HP TouchPads were  lowered to $99(16GB) and $149(32GB).

Samsung Galaxy S II News: Promotions for Samsung Galaxy S II and Epic 4G Touch Begin

Samsung Galaxy SII Ad

Samsung Galaxy SII Ad

The promotion of the Samsung Galaxy S II is starting with full force.  On the  Yahoo! homepage there is an expanding ad with review quotes such as -"Slim and Sexy," "You're going to watch a ton of movies on this phone" and "Hands down the greatest Android phone on the planet." Logos are shown for AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile with a to Samsung Galaxy S II website that proclaims, "We've created our best device for mobile entertainment. PERIOD."

Samsung's new commercial, "The Way We're Wired" implies that the Samsung Galaxy S II is destined to be the number one smartphone. Some bloggers noticed that the Samsung Galaxy S II commercial is a lot like the iPhone and iPad commercials with similar sounding piano background music.

The voice-over text is:

"Nobody ever set their sights on second place. Who aspires to be almost remembered? (video of Martin Luther King Jr and Evil Knievil). There is a reason there are no giant foam figures saying where number three. No one wants to tell an average joke, make an underwhelming entrance, go out with a whimper. No one ever stood in front of mirror with a hair brush pretending to be a tambourine player. There are definitely more kids dressed as Batman than Robin. We all aspire. So when we built the new Samsung Galaxy S II we made it the best and brightest with the most vivid screen out there on our fastest phone ever. Because we're Samsung and that's just the way we're wired."

Meanwhile, new benchmark tests of the International Samsung Galaxy S II show that the processor is second only to the iPad 2, an Apple product. When the next iPhone 5 comes out, it may be faster than the Samsung Galaxy S II dual-core 1.2GHz processor.

First looks and reviews of the Samsung Galaxy S II have been positive. The reviewers are somewhat reticent because well there are a bunch of super-powerhouse smartphones coming round the bend, released in time for holidays, such as the Droid Prime, Droid Bionic, HTC Vigor, HTC Holiday, Samsung Stratosphere and Nexus Prime.
