AT&T Trade-in Deal for iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S4 vs HTC One & More

AT&T is currently running a commercial touting its trade-in deal that will get you 50% off any smartphone up to $199.99.  The company is also offering free activation for a limited time. It is a better deal, however to buy from AT&T directly online. If you act before the end of today, you don't have to pay the $36 activation fee. This is the one of the first times that we've seen prices directly online from AT&T beat online retailers such as Amazon, Wirefly and Lets Talk.

In order to get the 50% off in an AT&T store, you have to bring in a smartphone that is less than three-year's old. If you want 50% off the newest smartphones $199.99 and lower with a two-year contract, you don't have to trade-in any smartphone at all when you buy it from AT&T online directly. Of course you can trade or sell your smartphone on eBay if you prefer.

iPhone 5 @ Virgin Mobile Cheapest Deal vs T-Mobile, Walmart & Straight Talk

Virgin Mobile launches the iPhone 5 on today using its Beyond Talk plans, with unlimited 3G/4G LTE data and messaging. The ad on Virgin Mobile says "Loving it is easy, that's why so many people do." As an added bonus they are offering an.$100 account credit for those who switch to Virgin Mobile before July 7. We we did the math, it is the cheapest we could find for an iPhone 5, as of this publication.

The 16GB iPhone 5 is available in Black and White,  online and in store for $549.99 [excluding taxes]. The 32GB and 64GB, also in Black and White, are at Virgin Mobile online only for $649.99 and $749.99, respectively.

Freedom Pop Free Cell Phone Voice, Text & Data Services

FredomPop, will be freeing people from expensive contracts soon with free, voice, text and data mobile service. All you have to do is pay for the Android phone and any overages. The service is expected to launch "later this summer."

FreedomPop guarantees customers 500 MB of 4G data for free, unlimited texting, and 200 free anytime voice minutes each month. For voice calls the service uses VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol technology.)

Note this service is different from subsidized free cell phones for low-income households such as the newly announced program in California.

Cheapest iPhone 5/4S @Walmart: Verizon vs AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile & Straight Talk Deals

Let the price wars begin. There have been some price reductions for the price of the iPhone 5 up front, however, over time you will still pay over $2000 for your iPhone unless you go for a prepaid option (see chart, bel0w).

Formerly, we seldom saw a price drop anywhere for the iPhone 4S or 5 with contracts, Walmart over the weekend cut the in-store-only price of the iPhone 5 down to $129.99 and the iPhone 4S down to $39.99 with contracts for AT&T, Sprint or Verizon Wireless.

This pricing is very attractive to those who bought original iPhones when they used to be launched in June.  However, many are waiting for the next version of the iPhone 5, possibly the iPhone 5S with dual-led flash.

It's the first time we've seen a major discount on the iPhone 5 so early in the year..  Best Buy is offering $50 off all iPhone models including the iPhone 5 with a contract.
