Kindle Fire Fires Sales & Profits, Will it Sell-Out Like HP TouchPad?

Kindle FireWe suspect that Amazon may sell-out of the Kindle Fire over the holidays.  It hasn't sold-out of the Kindle Fire but it is selling very well.  If there isn't another tablet or must-have device to compete with it in time for the holidays, we may have repeat of the original Kindle sell-out.

Amazon sold 95,000 Kindle Fire tablets during the device’s first day of presales according to DataSource. More than 250,000 Kindle Fire tablets have been preordered since Amazon announced it last Wednesday, according to a report from Cult of Android.  It is averaging 50,000 preorders a day since its first day of sale.

Kindle Fire iPadThe iPad will continue to dominate the tablet space for many reasons, noted Peter King, analyst at Strategy Analytics in an interview with Wireless and Mobile News. 

Tablet buyers are not just buying a tablet but want an entire ecosystem of content, apps and functionality.  There will be many hurdles to jump, before the price drops down to $199 for full-powered tablets.

In the case of the HP TouchPad, King said “You could buy a Ferrari at a Ford price,” which accounted for the fast sales when the prices of HP TouchPads were  lowered to $99(16GB) and $149(32GB).

TouchPads Touch Down at HP but for $249.99, $219.99 - Sold-Out Party Over?

HP TouchPad Out of StockHP employees, last week, were able to buy HP TouchPads for the incredibly low price of $99 or $149.  Consumers are still hoping that there will be some left to buy soon at "fire sale" prices.  HP TouchPads are selling for over two-hundred dollars on eBay.

The HP shopping site is now showing the he 32GB TouchPad for $249.99 and 16GB for $219.99 as out of stock.

This leaves plenty of room for conjecture.   HP may be testing a new price point for the HP TouchPad when it goes on sale, again.

Amazon to Kindle Fire in OS Wars by Buying HP TouchPad webOS?

Kindle FireAmazon is learning from the HP TouchPad fire sale by pricing its Amazon Kindle Fire at a super low price and also may even buy the operating system from HP.  The sale is a family affair.  The Amazon Kindle Fire is on presale from Amazon and will be released on November 15.  The HP TouchPad was liquidated in August.

VentureBeat reported that Amazon is closest to make a deal to buy Palm and webOS software.  Palm's former CEO Jon Rubinstein is on the Amazon board.   Rubenstein told Joshua Toplosky, in July that Amazon would make a "great partner' to expand webOS devices.  The operating system was created by Palm for the launch of the Palm Pre and can also run on smartphones.
